Design Team Announced for Next Phase of Improvements to Moakley Park

Boston, MALocal News

Mayor Michelle Wu announced the appointment of Weston & Sampson as the technical lead and Stoss Landscape Urbanism as the design lead for improvements at Moakley Park. Funded through the City’s five-year Capital Plan, the project will enhance community facilities and implement coastal resilience measures to protect South Boston from flooding. The design phase, which begins in September 2025, will focus on relocating ball fields and improving playing surfaces, drainage, and lighting. Community amenities will include a premier baseball field, a plaza with a splashpad, and flexible spaces for events. Interim Parks Commissioner Cathy Baker-Eclipse highlighted the project’s role in Boston’s coastal resilience efforts.

The plan incorporates a resilient berm designed to withstand projected flooding events by 2070. Funding also comes from FEMA’s BRIC grant for pre-disaster planning and design. Community engagement will guide the project, with opportunities for residents to share input in upcoming meetings.
