Ferdinand’s Blue Store was pivotal in shaping Dudley Square, now Nubian Square, from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. As a prominent department store, it played a vital role in the area's development into a commercial and transportation hub. Today, only the facade remains, symbolizing Dudley Station's historical significance. The Boston Redevelopment Authority acquired the building in 2007 as part of the Dudley Vision Project, which aimed to gut the interior while preserving its facade. The design competition was won by Mecanoo and Sasaki in 2008, and the project was completed during Mayor Martin J.

Walsh’s administration. The Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building opened in April 2015, serving as the headquarters for Boston Public Schools and providing space for retail and nonprofits. A public hearing regarding the potential Landmark designation is set for November 12, 2025. This designation highlights the community's commitment to preserving its historical heritage.
