Planning Department Advances Citywide Needs Assessment, Updates to Development Review Process
Boston's Planning Department approved new flood protection measures and enhancements to the Article 80 development review process this month. The initiatives include a Citywide Needs Assessment, which will focus on public facilities and essential services to support the city's growth. The newly approved development will create 159 homes, with 129 designated as income-restricted, and is expected to generate 157 construction jobs. As part of the city's Anti-Displacement Action Plan, a pilot program for Direct Displacement Disclosure will require developers to inform current tenants about potential displacements before filing projects. Improvements to the Article 80 process will also be implemented, including new engagement tools to enhance community involvement.
These actions are based on community recommendations and aim to foster a resilient, affordable, and equitable Boston. The Board awarded a contract to Karp Strategies for the Citywide Needs Assessment, focusing on various urban challenges. These developments underscore Boston's commitment to addressing housing and climate issues.
