Notice of Finding of No Significant Impact and Notice of Intent to Request Release of Funds - Faneuil Gardens Phase I October 17, 2025

Boston, MALocal News

The City of Boston announces plans to request federal HOME Program Funds for the redevelopment of Faneuil Gardens Phase I, aimed at replacing outdated housing with 114 affordable units. The project is estimated to cost $105 million, with $3 million allocated from federal sources. The redevelopment will enhance community amenities, including outdoor spaces and a raised crosswalk for better access to McKinney Playground. The Boston Housing Authority will submit additional requests for funding under HUD's Restore Rebuild Initiative, which will support 85 new federal public housing units. The city has assessed that the redevelopment will not significantly impact the environment, thus waiving the need for an Environmental Impact Statement.

Public comments are encouraged until November 5, 2025, to inform the fund release process. Mayor Michelle Wu has certified the city’s commitment to meet federal environmental review obligations. This initiative reflects Boston's ongoing efforts to improve housing conditions and community connectivity in the Brighton area.
