Mayor Michelle Wu Celebrates the Groundbreaking of a New Community Center in Grove Hall

Mayor Michelle Wu officially broke ground on a new community center in Grove Hall, Boston, with funding from a $65 million Capital Plan. The 41,000 square-foot facility will feature amenities such as a pool, gym, fitness studio, and spaces for various community activities. This center will be the first full-service community center in Boston, addressing the long-standing need expressed by local residents for a dedicated space. Mayor Wu acknowledged the crucial role of community engagement in the design process, underscoring the importance of local voices. State Senator Liz Miranda noted that the center represents a realization of the community's vision and strength.

The facility will also serve as a resource for residents, providing flexible programming and serving as a heating/cooling center during extreme weather. Currently, BCYF’s services are limited to school buildings, restricting access and programming hours. This new center aims to enhance the quality of life for residents and strengthen community ties.
