Mayor Wu and Boston Parks and Recreation Department Celebrate Improvements to Walsh Playground

Mayor Michelle Wu inaugurated the renovated Walsh Playground in Dorchester, marking the completion of a $4 million project aimed at revitalizing community recreational spaces. Funded through the City’s five-year Capital Plan, the renovation includes new play equipment, a splash pad, and upgraded sports facilities like tennis and basketball courts. Local leaders praised the collaborative effort, noting the significant community input that shaped the playground’s design. The upgrades also feature a competition softball field, multipurpose areas, and a quarter-mile walking path to enhance accessibility. The project was supported by a $500,000 Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities (PARC) Grant, highlighting the city’s commitment to investing in public spaces.

Community members expressed excitement about the new facilities, emphasizing the playground's role as a vibrant gathering place. Ann Walsh, a local softball coach, remarked on the positive impact these improvements will have on youth sports in the area.
