Number of Methuen businesses closed amid human trafficking investigation now up to 5

Methuen officials shut down three more spas—Oriental Spa, Yellow Lilly Day Spa, and Lavender Spa—amid allegations of human trafficking, bringing the total closures to five. The Department of Health, Human Services, and Inspections cited unlicensed activities and numerous safety violations as reasons for the closures. This effort follows the recent shutdown of Beauty Garden Spa and Eastern Bodywork Therapy, where a manager was arrested on trafficking charges. Mayor D. J.

Beauregard stated the city has zero tolerance for human trafficking and is targeting those who profit from it. A citywide assessment of suspected trafficking hotspots is underway, with investigations continuing into the five spas. Beauregard urged that anyone involved in trafficking, whether as a trafficker, landlord, or buyer, will be held accountable. The city is committed to dismantling the networks that enable these illegal activities. Methuen's aggressive approach aims to send a clear message to traffickers and their associates.
