Mayor Michelle Wu Appoints New Members to Citys Black Men and Boys Commission

Mayor Michelle Wu appointed new members to the Black Men and Boys Commission, dedicated to enhancing equity and opportunities for Black men and boys in Boston. The Commission consists of 21 local leaders and experts who work with the Office of Black Male Advancement to address systemic barriers. Mayor Wu highlighted the Commission's vital role in shaping city initiatives and thanked outgoing members for their service. The Commission has influenced significant investments in education, housing, health, and economic opportunities, including funding for My Brother’s Keeper Boston and mental health initiatives. In partnership with the Boston City Council, the Office of Black Male Advancement launched the first Equity Study for Black men and boys, aiming to quantify and evaluate inequities impacting this demographic.

Phase one of the study, led by Tury Research Institute, will gather data through an Equity Survey open to Black men and boys until October 31, 2025. City Councilor Brian Worrell emphasized the importance of translating challenges into resources through the Commission's work. The efforts aim to create a more equitable Boston for all residents.
