Mayor Michelle Wu Announces Six Recipients of the 2025 Community Clean Air Grant
Mayor Michelle Wu announced the recipients of the 2025 Community Clean Air Grant program, distributing $1,117,296 to six projects aimed at reducing air pollution in Boston's environmental justice neighborhoods. The funded initiatives include air quality monitoring and education campaigns, all designed to improve public health. Awardee projects such as those by Allston-Brighton Health Collaborative and Chinatown Main Street focus on community-informed solutions to air quality challenges. Wu stated, “These Community Clean Air Grants allow Boston to take action on the ground,” highlighting the significance of grassroots efforts. The grant program, funded through the Air Pollution Control Commission’s Pollution Abatement Fund, empowers residents to design and lead solutions for local air quality issues.
The six projects aim to reduce traffic-related pollution and enhance indoor air quality in small businesses. Boston aims for carbon neutrality by 2050, making cleaner air a key component of its sustainability efforts. Applications for the next funding round will open in summer 2026, with support offered for prospective applicants.
