Boston After Dark has successfully expanded its summer programming, hosting 23 events across 15 neighborhoods in 2025 and engaging over 1,500 teens. Mayor Michelle Wu praised the initiative for providing safe community spaces and responding to youth violence patterns seen in 2023. The program aims to create opportunities for youth to connect through engaging activities like basketball tournaments and talent shows. Support from organizations such as the Cummings Foundation and Boston Children’s Hospital has been crucial for its expansion. The initiative aligns with findings from OYEA’s Youth Speaks Boston survey, which indicated that youth prioritize events that foster community and social interaction.

Each event included free food and diverse activities, enhancing the sense of belonging among participants. José F. Massó, Chief of Human Services, emphasized the impact of collaborative efforts in supporting Boston's youth. The program's success highlights the importance of creating inclusive spaces for teens year-round.
