CEO of Boston nonprofit facing crack cocaine distribution charges
Javan Tooley, CEO of the Boston nonprofit Adapt & Evolve LLC, pleaded not guilty to federal charges related to crack cocaine distribution. The U. S. Attorney’s Office charged him with distribution and possession with intent to distribute over 28 grams of cocaine base. Authorities allege he targeted women suffering from substance abuse disorders, coercing them into commercial sex and drug distribution.
On September 10, Tooley reportedly distributed 100 grams of crack cocaine while a child was in his vehicle. Law enforcement apprehended him after he arranged a subsequent drug deal, discovering an additional 160 grams of crack cocaine in his possession. Tooley's criminal history includes a five-year federal prison sentence for a prior cocaine distribution conviction. He has violated supervised release terms multiple times, resulting in an additional 22-month prison sentence. Due to his past convictions, he faces a minimum sentence of 10 years if convicted, underscoring the severity of the charges he faces.
