Man found guilty of raping teenage girl at Rockland migrant shelter in 2024

Boston, MALocal News

Cory Alvarez, 27, was found guilty of raping a 15-year-old girl at a Rockland hotel used as a migrant shelter. The jury delivered the verdict after a trial during which the victim and her father testified in Haitian Creole, highlighting the emotional toll of the case. Alvarez was arrested in March 2024 after police responded to a report of sexual assault, and he legally entered the U. S. under a federal program.

Initially released on bail in July due to inconsistencies in evidence, he faced renewed legal troubles with ICE, which intended to deport him. A judge paused deportation proceedings to ensure the criminal case could proceed. With a minimum sentence of 10 years looming, Alvarez is scheduled for sentencing on September 30, 2025. Plymouth District Attorney Tim Cruz emphasized the importance of seeking justice for the child victim. The case underscores the complexities surrounding migrant status and legal protections.
