Detained Milford teens parents ordered to wear ankle monitors

Boston, MALocal News

Gustavo Enrique De Oliveira, a 16-year-old Milford High School student, was briefly detained by ICE last week, prompting his parents to wear ankle monitors as they await their asylum case check-in. The incident occurred when an ICE officer tackled Gustavo and threatened him before his release on Monday. His parents complied with ICE orders to check in and were subsequently directed to a facility for monitoring. Alexandra Peredo Carroll from the Mabel Center expressed concerns, stating, “Nothing in this family’s profile would explain why they would be considered flight risks. ” The community has rallied in support of the family, reflecting broader concerns about immigration enforcement in Milford.

This incident marks the second detention of a local teenager by ICE this year, following the earlier case of Marcelo Gomes da Silva. The detainment aligns with ICE’s operation “Patriot 2. 0,” which has intensified enforcement actions in Massachusetts. Local advocates continue to call for reforms and protections for immigrant families facing similar situations.
