Police respond to pro-Palestine encampment at BU

Boston, MALocal News

Police dispersed a group of pro-Palestine demonstrators at Boston University on Monday as they attempted to establish an encampment to protest the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. This protest coincided with a UN report that concluded Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. The demonstrators aimed to occupy the area around the George Sherman Union, renaming it the “Anas Al-Sharif Union” in honor of a recently killed Palestinian journalist. They demanded that the university divest from Zionist organizations and called for an academic boycott of complicit institutions. Activists set up tents and displayed protest art but faced a growing police presence by nightfall, leading to threats of mass arrests.

Ultimately, the group confirmed the end of their encampment, stating it was just one battle in a larger struggle for a liberated Palestine. A Boston Police Department spokesperson confirmed their response but noted no arrests were made. University officials did not provide comments on the incident following the protest.
