Amtrak's newest high-speed train makes inaugural ride into Boston's South Station
Amtrak's new NextGen Acela train made its inaugural arrival at Boston's South Station after launching in Washington, D. C. The train operates at speeds of 160 miles per hour, a 10 mph increase from the previous fleet. Amtrak President Roger Harris stated that the new trains will improve reliability and ensure timely arrivals for passengers. Each train is equipped with a tilt system for safe curve navigation and accommodates 80 additional seats, enhancing overall capacity.
The business and first-class offerings include larger windows and free Wi-Fi, catering to a more comfortable travel experience. Pricing will be influenced by demand, especially during off-peak hours, with Harris indicating that lower fares may be available. The NextGen Acela fleet aims to address the needs of travelers between Boston, New York, and Washington, D. C. The first service from South Station is set to depart on Thursday at 5 a.
