This North Shore beach, often named among the states best, closed due to reported shark sighting

Boston, MALocal News

Gloucester officials closed Good Harbor Beach to swimming on Friday after a shark sighting, making it the second warning issued in just one week. The beach had reopened Thursday afternoon after lifeguards confirmed no further shark activity. Officials are advising beachgoers to remain out of the water and follow lifeguard instructions while the situation is monitored. This warning coincides with previous advisories regarding strong surf and rip currents expected over the weekend. Coastal communities in Massachusetts have ramped up resources for monitoring shark activity, with Crane Beach planning to install a shark detection buoy.

Meanwhile, a great white shark sighting in Ogunquit, Maine, prompted officials to raise a yellow flag as a precautionary measure. Ogunquit fire officials reported a credible sighting of a 6- to 8-foot shark roughly 200 yards off Little Beach. These incidents highlight the increasing presence of sharks along the North Shore and the importance of public awareness and safety measures.
