4 killed, including 2 children, in Conn. fire

A devastating fire in Hartford, Connecticut, resulted in the deaths of two adults and two children early Monday morning. Firefighters responded to the scene on Shultas Place at approximately 2:36 a. m. but were unable to enter due to the intensity of the flames. Four additional individuals suffered injuries and were transported to the hospital.

Mayor Arunan Arulampalam remarked on the tragedy, calling it a “sad day” for the city and pledging support for the affected families and first responders. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire and whether the building had operational smoke detectors, as the extent of the damage makes it difficult to ascertain. The residence is deemed a total loss, reflecting the fire's severity. This incident underscores the critical importance of smoke detectors in residential buildings.
