Car stolen from Central Mass. hospital with child inside

A suspect stole a car from Heywood Hospital in Gardner on Monday afternoon, endangering a child inside. After a short distance, the suspect ordered the child out, and they exited safely. Police utilized data from a cellphone left in the vehicle to monitor its movements along Route 2 and Interstate 495. When the suspect noticed State Police cruisers, he began driving erratically, leading officers to refrain from pursuing for public safety. Lowell Police later found the abandoned vehicle in their city.

The suspect has been identified, but authorities have not disclosed his name, and the investigation into his whereabouts continues. This incident raises concerns about child safety in public spaces and the measures law enforcement can take during high-risk situations. The swift response by police highlights the importance of technology in tracking stolen vehicles.
