Police release bodycam footage from arrest of Mass. state Rep. in OUI crash

Boston, MALocal News

Massachusetts State Rep. John Lawn, 56, was arrested for operating under the influence after hitting an SUV on July 16. The Boston Police Department released bodycam footage showing Lawn's impaired condition, characterized by slurred speech and difficulty with sobriety tests. Officers instructed him to balance without using a fence for support, to which he struggled. When asked to take a Breathalyzer test, Lawn refused and instead requested an Uber.

He later pleaded guilty, resulting in a 45-day suspension of his driver's license and probation. Lawn publicly took responsibility for his actions, expressing deep regret and commitment to living a healthier life. If he does not reoffend within a year, the conviction will be erased from his record, a standard procedure for first-time offenders. Lawn has represented the 10th Middlesex District for over a decade, making his actions significant to his constituents.
