Boston firefighters rescue man from underneath Blue Line train
Boston firefighters executed a technical rescue on Friday, freeing a man trapped beneath a Blue Line train at the Government Center MBTA station. The incident occurred around 11:10 a. m. when the man intentionally entered the train's right of way as the train approached the platform. Firefighters ensured the power was secure before initiating the extraction process.
MBTA Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan confirmed the man was conscious and speaking during transport to a local hospital. Deputy Chief Steven Shaffer reported the man sustained serious injuries, as captured in video footage from WCVB. The incident temporarily delayed Blue Line service, already undergoing a nine-day shutdown due to maintenance. Shuttle bus service was briefly extended to Haymarket Station during the emergency response. Regular Blue Line service resumed without delays shortly after 1 p.
