Boston, MALocal News

The Boston Planning Department has secured approval for three significant development projects aimed at enhancing affordable housing in the city. Collectively, these projects will deliver 920,062 square feet of residential space and 820 new units, with 163 designated as income-restricted. They are expected to generate around 801 construction jobs and 61 permanent positions. The 75 Morrissey Boulevard project alone will create 754 residential units, including 151 income-restricted units, and will feature retail and civic spaces. Additionally, the 1444-1446 Dorchester Avenue project will provide 47 new homes, including nine income-restricted units, and will preserve a historic home on-site.

Each project incorporates community benefits, such as retail space and open areas, alongside sustainability measures like LEED Gold certification and Passive House standards. The Planning Department aims to advance zoning reforms that support multifamily housing, ensuring the design options align with Boston's neighborhood character. These developments are crucial for addressing housing affordability and community resilience in Boston.
