West Nile Virus Risk Level in Boston Raised to High

Boston, MALocal News

The Boston Public Health Commission has raised the risk level for West Nile Virus to high, following evidence of infected mosquitoes in the area. While there are currently no confirmed human cases, the Commission encourages residents to take protective measures, especially for those over 50 and immunocompromised individuals. Suggested strategies include avoiding outdoor activities during peak mosquito hours and using EPA-approved repellents. Dr. Bisola Ojikutu, Boston's Public Health Commissioner, highlighted the necessity of these precautions for family safety.

Most people infected with the virus show no symptoms, but some may experience mild to severe illness. High-risk individuals can face severe neurological symptoms if infected. The Commission will continue to monitor mosquito populations and disseminate crucial information to residents. More details on West Nile Virus and prevention can be found on BPHC's website.
