Video Great white shark sighting near beach prompts warning in Maine

Boston, MALocal News

Police reported a great white shark, estimated between 10 to 12 feet long, spotted off Richmond Island in Maine on Monday. The Scarborough Marine Resource Officer confirmed the sighting after receiving multiple reports, and drone footage captured the shark swimming around 10 a. m. The shark was seen again near Pine Point Beach on Tuesday morning, although no video documentation was available for that sighting. Great white sharks can grow up to 20 feet and usually arrive in New England waters during late spring, migrating south as temperatures drop in fall.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, with the shark potentially moving toward Crescent Beach State Park and Higgins Beach. Police are sharing updates to keep the community informed about the shark's movements. Residents are advised to exercise caution when near the water. For questions, the public can reach out to Marine Resource Officer Daryen Granata at 207-730-4356.
