Bunker Hills Past Re-surfaces in Summer Archaeology Project

Boston, MALocal News

Archaeological excavations at Breed’s Hill have uncovered a wealth of artifacts linked to the Battle of Bunker Hill, timed for its 250th anniversary. The City’s archaeology team collaborates with Chartrand Geoarchaeological Solutions, LLC, conducting a Ground-Penetrating Radar survey to pinpoint the 1775 redoubt's location. Excavation plans for June have been postponed to 2026 due to overlapping commemorative events organized by the National Park Service. The team is currently focused on analyzing their discoveries and preparing for future digs this fall and next spring. Public participation is encouraged through a downtown pop-up archaeology lab, open every Wednesday until the end of July, which showcases findings from the Siege of Boston.

This initiative aims to deepen the community's understanding of the area’s historical context. The project underscores the significance of local history in shaping Boston's identity. For further details, interested individuals can explore the Charlestown 250 Project online.
