Pope Leo XIV tells 1 million Catholic youths that they are the sign a different world is possible

Boston, MAReligion

Pope Leo XIV addressed over a million young Catholics during the closing Mass for the Jubilee of Youth in Rome, emphasizing their role as a beacon of hope and dialogue in a world plagued by violence. He expressed solidarity with the youth in Gaza and Ukraine, stating, “We are with the young people of Gaza. We are with the young people of Ukraine. ” The event is part of a Holy Year pilgrimage anticipated to welcome 32 million visitors to the Vatican. Young participants camped out and engaged in spiritual practices, including singing hymns and confessing their sins, despite rain and the tragic deaths of two attendees during the week.

Leo encouraged the youth to “aspire to great things, to holiness, wherever you are” and to share their faith when they return home. The celebration was marked by joy and resilience, with attendees noting the beauty of the experience amid challenges. The next World Youth Day is scheduled for August 3-8, 2027, in Seoul, South Korea. This gathering highlights the Church's ongoing commitment to youth engagement and the promotion of peace.
