1.7 Million In Neighborhood Jobs Trust Funding Awarded to Community Organizations Expanding Job Training and Education Programs
Mayor Michelle Wu announced the allocation of $1. 7 million from the Neighborhood Jobs Trust to 14 community organizations in Boston, enhancing local job training and support services. The funding is projected to benefit approximately 600 residents and attract an additional $10 million in external funding. Wu highlighted the critical role of this initiative in connecting residents to vital career training and job opportunities. Chief of Worker Empowerment Trinh Nguyen stated that the investment targets individuals facing barriers to employment in crucial economic sectors.
Since its inception in 1987, the Neighborhood Jobs Trust has amassed over $55 million in Linkage funds, supporting the city's education and workforce development efforts. Among the funded initiatives this year is a $35,750 grant to Boston Public Schools for a driver's education program aimed at students who lack transportation options. This program will assist students in obtaining their driver's licenses, facilitating access to jobs in high-demand sectors such as construction and healthcare. By investing in workforce readiness, the initiative aims to foster long-term employment outcomes and economic security for Boston's residents.
