Kien Lang earned the 2025 Volunteer of the Year award from the Boston Tax Help Coalition due to his exceptional service in tax preparation. Since 2012, he has volunteered at various sites, currently focusing on the Chinatown Main Street site where he helps serve a diverse community. His ability to speak Cantonese and Mandarin has enhanced his effectiveness in assisting low-to-moderate income residents, contributing to $186,000 in refunds this tax season for 171 clients. Kien also dedicates time to other local organizations, including the American Red Cross Food Pantry, showcasing his commitment to community service. He values the learning opportunities available through the VITA program, which allows volunteers to gain advanced tax preparation certification.
