Former state trooper pleads guilty to 2021 motor vehicle homicide in Boston

Kristopher Carr, a former state trooper, pleaded guilty to motor vehicle homicide for causing the death of Christopher Zike in a crash on October 29, 2021. Driving under the influence, Carr lost control of his SUV after leaning over to kiss his girlfriend, leading to a collision with Zike’s motorcycle. Zike, who was en route to a 2 a. m. shift at IKEA, was thrown from his bike and later died at Boston Medical Center.

Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden stated that Carr's actions resulted in a tragic loss of life and affected many others. Carr was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail, with 18 months to serve and the remainder suspended for three years. In addition to his prison time, Carr's driver’s license will be suspended for 15 years under state law. Judge Mary Ames also ordered a substance abuse evaluation and necessary treatment. Zike's brother spoke of his brother's dedication to the community, underscoring the impact of Carr's poor decisions.
