Boston, MALocal News

The family of Francis Gigliotti, who died after a police encounter in Haverhill, is pursuing an independent investigation into the circumstances of his death. Represented by attorney Timothy Bradl, they are seeking a private autopsy and gathering evidence, including video footage of the incident. Gigliotti, 43, was restrained by multiple officers outside a seafood restaurant after allegedly smoking crack cocaine, with witnesses reporting erratic behavior prior to his death. However, his family asserts that he did not deserve to die in such a manner, emphasizing his warmth and positive presence in the community. Seven Haverhill police officers involved are currently on paid administrative leave as the investigation continues.

The District Attorney's office is also involved, and the family is determined to hold law enforcement accountable. Gigliotti's mother expressed her unimaginable grief and commitment to seeking justice for her son. Mayor Melinda Barrett described the incident as tragic, underscoring the need for accountability and potential policy change.
