Boston, MALocal News

Donna Vayo, a Worcester resident, faces operating under the influence charges after a crash on July 10 seriously injured two off-duty police officers. The incident occurred when Vayo failed to yield while turning left onto Interstate 290, colliding with Officers Eddie Santiago and Stephen Kustigian, who were on motorcycles. Both officers suffered significant injuries, including a shattered pelvis, spinal fractures, and a collapsed lung. Leicester police Chief Ken Antanavica expressed admiration for the officers, emphasizing their value to the department. In response to their injuries, a crowdfunding initiative has been launched to aid in covering their medical expenses.

"Every penny goes toward both Steve and Eddie's needs," said K-9 officer Matt Fenuccio, affirming the community's support. The incident highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement while off-duty, raising awareness about road safety. Legal proceedings against Vayo will likely unfold as the community rallies around the injured officers.
