Mayor Wu Announces Youth Sports Grants Open for Applications

Mayor Michelle Wu announced the opening of applications for the Let’s Play Boston Community Sports Grant, allocating $250,000 to support local youth sports organizations. This initiative targets youth aged 8-18, aiming to expand access to diverse sports programming and promote healthy lifestyles. Grants of up to $5,000 will assist organizations in reducing registration fees, purchasing equipment, or covering rental costs for sports activities. Last year, the program funded 55 organizations, serving over 7,274 youth, with a notable 1,600 being first-time participants. Mayor Wu highlighted the role of community sports leagues in fostering active, healthy lives, while Chief of Human Services José F.

Massó emphasized the additional benefits of youth sports, such as leadership and resilience. The grant funding must be utilized by June 30, 2026, supporting fall, winter, and spring sports. The Let’s Play Boston Initiative aims to improve representation in youth sports and enhance coaching quality across the city. The Human Services Cabinet oversees the grant distribution, aligning with the city’s broader commitment to empowering Boston’s youth.
