Boston police commissioner denies allegations of meddling in Karen Read case

Boston, MALocal News

Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox denied accusations of meddling in the Karen Read murder trial, particularly regarding Officer Kelly Dever's testimony. Dever claimed she faced threats of perjury accusations from Read's legal team if she did not support their narrative. After being reminded of her timeline, she recanted her earlier statement, which implied she saw others with Read’s SUV. Cox asserted he had no prior knowledge of Dever's involvement in the case, stating, "I have nothing to do with Karen Read. " Read was acquitted of murder charges and convicted of operating under the influence, receiving a year of probation.

The trial raised allegations of a law enforcement cover-up, which Read’s lawyers have strongly suggested. Dever is currently on family medical leave following her testimony, amid significant online scrutiny. Cox aims to move forward, focusing on other departmental matters.
