Mayor Michelle Wu Announces New Partnership with Gavin Foundation to Expand Access to Recovery and Treatment Services

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu announced a $200,000 grant from the Cummings Foundation, which will strengthen the partnership with the Gavin Foundation to enhance substance use treatment services. The funds will support the City's Coordinated Response Team (CRT) in providing treatment navigation and transportation for individuals in the Mass & Cass area and beyond. Mayor Wu underscored the significance of this collaboration in combating the opioid epidemic and facilitating recovery for residents. Peter Barbuto, President of the Gavin Foundation, noted the organization's 60-year history of supporting individuals facing substance use disorders in Boston. The CRT aims to streamline access to recovery services, addressing public health and safety challenges.

With this funding, the City will focus on improving quality of life and reducing outdoor substance use. The Boston Police Department is also committed to increasing enforcement in affected areas while diverting individuals to treatment programs. This initiative represents a broader strategy to create sustainable pathways to recovery and stable housing in the community.
