Milford police chief raises concerns about kids on e-bikes

Boston, MALocal News

Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino announced a task force to address rising concerns about youth riding e-bikes irresponsibly. Since May 1, the Milford Police Department recorded 26 complaints regarding reckless riding behaviors, including unsafe maneuvers and groups of up to 20 juveniles riding together. The chief highlighted the dangers of e-bikes, which can reach speeds near 30 mph, with state regulations requiring a throttle limit of 20 mph. Riders under 17 must wear helmets, but many do not comply. Additionally, the department noted at least five recent collisions involving cars and e-bikes.

The task force will focus on educating young riders about traffic laws and safety. Tusino aims to mitigate risks associated with e-bikes and ensure compliance with regulations. The initiative seeks to improve community safety and reduce accidents.
