Jouvert parade shooting suspect ordered held after fugitive capture

Boston, MALocal News

Gerald Vick, 31, was captured in Georgia after more than six months as a fugitive and was ordered held without bail in Suffolk Superior Court. He faces eight charges related to the J’ouvert Parade shooting on August 26, 2023, which injured eight people. The shooting occurred during Boston's Caribbean Carnival Festival, where six men and two women were shot, with six victims suffering non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities discovered a pistol on Vick equipped with a "Glock switch," enabling it to fire continuously. Vick had removed his court-ordered electronic monitoring bracelet the night before his trial was scheduled to begin in December.

He and another suspect, Dwayne Francis, were arrested at the scene of the shooting. The incident raises concerns over public safety during large events in Boston. A new trial date has been set for August 19, 2025, as the case moves forward.
