North Shore whale watch boat gets up close to 2 white sharks

Boston, MALocal News

On Wednesday, 7 Seas Whale Watch in Gloucester spotted two great white sharks just 10 miles from the coast, a rare occurrence for the company. The naturalist aboard the boat first identified a dorsal fin, ruling out common species like basking and blue sharks. Upon approaching, staff confirmed the shark was indeed a great white, marking one of only a handful of such sightings in the company's 42-year history. A second great white soon joined, swimming in circles near the boat and allowing for ample photo and video opportunities. This event emphasizes the presence of great whites in the area, attracting attention from marine enthusiasts and researchers alike.

Sightings like these can inform conservation efforts and raise awareness about the species. 7 Seas Whale Watch aims to educate the public about local marine life, enhancing community engagement. Understanding shark behavior is vital for both ecological research and promoting safe whale watching practices.
