Boston, MALocal News

A four-alarm fire severely damaged the South Shore Sports Complex in Hingham late Thursday night. Firefighters responded to a smoke detector activation around 11 p. m. , quickly upgrading the response due to heavy flames and smoke. More than 50 firefighters from 10 communities battled the blaze for six hours, switching between interior and exterior firefighting tactics.

The fire caused a substantial roof collapse, damaging the lounge, kitchen, and office areas, while heavy smoke affected the rest of the building. The deputy fire chief reported that water supply issues complicated the response efforts. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations cannot be conducted due to unsafe conditions. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. This event highlights the ongoing challenges of fire safety and emergency response in community facilities.
