Groundbreaking of Hamilton at Mount Everett Celebrated
Mayor Michelle Wu announced the groundbreaking of Hamilton at Mount Everett, a significant affordable housing development in Dorchester for older Boston residents. This project will create 36 income-restricted apartments, including four specifically for seniors transitioning out of homelessness. Wu highlighted the city's commitment to ensuring that older residents can age in place with dignity and stability. Developed by VietAID, the four-story building will include various community amenities, such as a community room and bike storage. Sheila Dillon, Chief of Housing, noted that the public investment will greatly enhance the quality of life for older residents.
The site will also provide fully accessible units, ensuring inclusivity for all. Local officials praised the initiative as a vital step toward maintaining community stability and diversity. City leaders reaffirmed their commitment to treating housing as a human right, emphasizing the importance of affordable options for seniors.
