On June 2, 2025, the Bloomington Police Department swore in eleven new officers, the largest group in over 35 years. Among the new officers, six are already certified in Indiana, while five transferred from other law enforcement agencies, including the South Bend and Indianapolis police departments. One officer rejoined the force after a 21. 5-year retirement, showcasing the department's appeal.

The Thomson administration also proposed converting the former IU Health property into a new police headquarters, aimed at improving facilities and service.
