Joe VanDeventer named Deputy Director of Public Works

Joe VanDeventer has been appointed as the Deputy Director of the City of Bloomington Public Works Department, effective January 1, 2026. With a history as the Director of Street Operations since 2014, he possesses over 20 years of leadership experience in public works. A seventh-generation Monroe County resident, VanDeventer has actively contributed to local organizations, including the Indiana Farm Bureau and 4-H of Monroe County. Public Works Director Adam Wason noted that VanDeventer’s extensive experience and dedication have prepared him well for this new role. The Common Council approved this appointment during the 2026 budget hearings, underscoring the city’s commitment to strong public works leadership.

In his new position, VanDeventer will oversee key areas including Fleet, Sanitation, and Street Divisions. He will also take on the Director’s responsibilities in their absence, ensuring continuity in leadership. This transition reflects the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance the effectiveness of its public works operations.
