City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Earns National Accreditation
The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department secured national re-accreditation from CAPRA during the NRPA conference on September 15. This achievement marks the department's continued commitment to meeting rigorous operational standards since its initial accreditation in 2001. The department demonstrated compliance with 68 recognized standards, showcasing its dedication to quality service and community engagement. Leslie Brinson, Recreation Services Division Director, stated that reaccreditation reflects their high professional standards and accountability. Mayor Kerry Thomson highlighted the importance of staff efforts in creating a welcoming environment for park users.
Accreditation involves a detailed review process, including self-assessments and site visits by trained volunteers. Bloomington is one of only three parks departments in Indiana to hold this status, ranking 213 nationwide. The CAPRA process ultimately enhances the quality of service provided to the community.
