City of Bloomington Invites Residents to Explore How Local Government Works

Bloomington, INLocal News

Bloomington's Residents Academy invites local residents to apply for its 2025 program, taking place from August 14 to October 23. The free sessions will feature interactive presentations, including tours of Switchyard Park and the Bloomington Animal Shelter. Participants will also experience a unique ride in the fire department's aerial ladder truck for a city view. Established in 1999, the program, developed by the Department of Housing and Neighborhood Development, focuses on educating residents about local government functions and encouraging civic involvement. According to Angela Van Rooy, the program manager, many participants learn about the academy through personal recommendations.

The application deadline is set for July 7, with status notifications following by July 15. The city prioritizes residents within its limits for participation. The program is fully in-person, and mobility accommodations are available to ensure accessibility.
