City of Bloomington, Monroe County, Ellettsville, and Stinesville Secure More Than 3.7 Million for Infrastructure Improvements

The City of Bloomington, Monroe County, Town of Ellettsville, and Town of Stinesville have joined forces to secure over $3. 7 million in funding aimed at improving regional infrastructure and road safety. This financial support, awarded through the Federal Highway Administration’s Highway Safety Improvement Program and INDOT’s Community Crossings Matching Grant, underscores the commitment to enhancing accessibility and pedestrian safety. Mayor Kerry Thomson remarked on the significance of these grants, stating they allow for infrastructure improvements without imposing additional costs on local taxpayers. Among the funded projects, Bloomington will receive $860,940 for modifying curb ramps in the downtown area to comply with ADA standards.

Monroe County has also been awarded $418,500 for safety enhancements on Fairfax Road, targeting several high-risk curves. Additionally, the Community Crossings Matching Grant will fund maintenance upgrades along North Walnut Street with a budget of $760,262. The Towns of Ellettsville and Stinesville will benefit from $258,182 and $69,778 respectively for their infrastructure projects. These initiatives exemplify a regional strategy aimed at fostering improved transportation infrastructure through collaborative planning.
