City of Bloomington Celebrates Black History Month with Poster Contest and Community Events
The City of Bloomington is excited to announce its 2025 Black History Month celebrations, which include a Poster Contest and several community events that highlight the theme "African Americans and Labor: From Slave Ships to the White House. " This initiative invites students from grades 4-12 to engage in research and creative expression, culminating in an awards ceremony on February 22, 2025, where prizes will be awarded for the top three submissions in various age categories. First-place winners will receive iPads, while cash prizes will also be given for second and third place. Additionally, the Black Market event on February 15 will showcase local Black-owned businesses, honoring the legacy of Bloomington’s historic Black Market, which was destroyed by fire in 1968. The celebration will conclude with a gala on March 1 at the Monroe Convention Center, recognizing the 2025 Living Legend recipients and Outstanding Black Leaders of Tomorrow.
These events are not only a platform for creativity but also aim to foster community dialogue about the contributions of Black Americans throughout history. For further details, residents are encouraged to explore the city’s official website. This initiative reflects Bloomington's commitment to honoring diversity and promoting historical education.
