City Launches Spring into Sustainability Challenge A Fun, Team-Based Competition to Reduce Carbon Footprints and Win Prizes
The City of Bloomington is excited to announce the Spring into Sustainability Challenge, a team-oriented competition aimed at reducing carbon footprints among local organizations and community groups. Running from March 1 to March 31, 2025, participants will log sustainable actions through the Zero in Bloomington platform, competing to win cash prizes up to $500 and recognition at the Earth Day 2025 celebration on April 19. Participants can choose from over 100 sustainability-focused actions, including energy-saving habits and waste reduction, with weekly themes to keep the competition engaging. An information session will be held via Zoom on February 12, requiring advance registration for those interested in participating. This initiative supports Bloomington's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25% below 2018 levels by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, as outlined in the 2021 Climate Action Plan.
Jolie Perry, the Sustainability Program Coordinator, highlights the Zero in Bloomington platform as a valuable resource for residents to learn about sustainable choices and their impact on greenhouse gas emissions. By participating, residents can not only contribute to the city's climate goals but also save money and foster a more sustainable community. The challenge encourages friendly competition while promoting awareness of the importance of sustainable habits in daily life.
