City of Bloomington Launches Crash Hub to Improve Traffic Safety Awareness
The City of Bloomington has unveiled the Crash Hub, an innovative online platform aimed at improving traffic safety awareness through data-driven insights. This resource features comprehensive crash data from 2019 to 2023, including a Crash Dashboard and interactive maps that pinpoint priority corridors and intersections for safety enhancements. GIS Manager Meghan Blair highlighted the collaborative efforts of city departments and specialists in creating this tool, which empowers residents and planners to address high-risk areas effectively. David Hittle, Director of the Planning & Transportation Department, noted that the hub aligns with the city's Safe Streets for All Initiative, which aims to reduce accidents and enhance mobility. The platform not only makes critical safety data publicly accessible but also fosters community engagement in transportation planning.
Looking ahead, the Crash Hub will incorporate 2024 crash data and develop additional resources focused on bicycle and pedestrian safety. By utilizing this hub, Bloomington aims to create a safer, more connected community for all residents. The initiative underscores the city’s commitment to making informed decisions that prioritize public safety in its transportation network.
