City of Bloomington Offers Incentives for Homeowners Investing in Solar and Energy Efficiency

Bloomington, INLocal News

The City of Bloomington has introduced the 2025 Bloomington Green Home Improvement Program (BGHIP), a rebate initiative designed to assist homeowners in making clean energy and energy efficiency upgrades. The program aims to improve environmental and economic equity while reducing community reliance on fossil fuels. Eligible projects include solar panel installations, energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, and battery storage solutions, with rebates based on income levels and project types. Low-income households can benefit from rebates covering up to 40% of project costs, while general applicants qualify for 25%. To maximize funding opportunities, residents are encouraged to apply before commencing work, and projects completed in 2025 are also eligible for rebates.

Furthermore, homeowners can explore additional incentives, including Duke Energy's Smart $aver program and forthcoming state-level rebates from the Indiana Office of Energy Development. “The City of Bloomington is committed to promoting clean energy,” stated Jolie Perry, emphasizing the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Homeowners can find more information and apply through the BGHIP website.
