Bloomington, INLocal News

The City of Bloomington has officially selected "Undulate," a proposal by local artist Jon Racek, for a public art installation at Hopewell Commons, funded through the city's 1% for the Arts program. Racek was among four finalists invited to submit full proposals, with the selection process beginning in March 2024. A recommendation committee, composed of members from the Bloomington Arts Commission and city staff, evaluated the proposals based on artistic quality and community feedback. The chosen installation, designed to foster a sense of community and welcome, has a budget of $100,000. The installation is tentatively scheduled for summer 2025, demonstrating the city's ongoing investment in public art.

To keep residents informed, a public project update will be held on October 23, 2024, at the John Waldron Arts Center. This initiative highlights the importance of public art in enhancing community spaces and reflects Bloomington's dedication to supporting local artists. The decision is expected to significantly contribute to the aesthetic and cultural landscape of the new Hopewell Commons area.
