City of Bloomington Announces October Adjustment to Trash Cart Rates

Starting in October 2025, the City of Bloomington will raise trash cart rates as part of a cost-recovery model. The updated fees will be $9. 01 for small carts, $16. 48 for medium carts, and $24. 72 for large carts, representing increases of $0.

26, $0. 48, and $0. 72, respectively. This adjustment follows a delayed increase that resulted in an estimated $48,000 in undercollected revenue. Sanitation Director Lazarus Sears noted that the fee adjustments are essential for maintaining reliable sanitation services.

The City provides weekly curbside trash and recycling collection, along with bi-weekly yard waste collection from April to December. Residents can verify their collection day using the interactive Sanitation Services Map or the myBloomington tool. Additionally, optional pickups for missed collections or overflow trash are available at specified fees based on cart size.
