Series of Construction Projects Planned for Hopewell Site

Bloomington's redevelopment of the former IU Health Bloomington Hospital site into the Hopewell Neighborhood will commence a series of construction projects aimed at enhancing community infrastructure. The West Second Street modernization project will focus on roadway reconstruction and utility upgrades, beginning with utility work now and major construction planned for June to November 2026. The City of Bloomington Utilities will kick off infrastructure improvements in the Rogers Street area starting September 21, 2025, with the aim of minimizing disruptions through phased work. The Hopewell West – Jackson Street project will transform the former Kohr Hospital Administration Building into affordable housing, including the construction of a new roadway and improved sidewalks. Phase 3 of the Rogers Street project will close the B-Line Trail and Morton Street temporarily, while West Second Street will close for sewer and water line improvements starting September 22.

The projects are designed to expand attainable housing options and support Bloomington's growth. Officials will monitor the progress and adjust schedules as needed based on various factors. These initiatives represent a significant investment in Bloomington’s future.
